DIY Walnut Facial Scrub Recipe
Walnut and Apricot scrubs are the most popular scrubs available in the market sold by several brands so I just thought if I could blend a homemade version of walnut scrub. After a lot of contemplation I gave it a try and the result was quite good. I picked up a few of my favorite ingredients and put them all together and the result was this fragrant scrub. While going through the ingredients of one popular walnut scrub brand I was amazed to see that the walnut scrub did not contain the nut but the particles were actually of the shell. Here in this recipe of homemade walnut scrub we will be making use of both walnut paste and walnut shells to reveal that supple, clean glowing skin hiding under the dead cells, makeup residue and settled dirt.
Why Use The Walnut Scrub On Face
Walnuts or Akhrots are loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids which helps the skin to retain moisture, by locking in the moisture this scrub helps you achieve that wrinkle free skin you ever longed for. Walnuts also contain Vitamin E which is an antioxidant that will make the skin soft and supple. The EFA in the walnuts also help in combating inflammation and other skin problems like Acne and Psoriasis. I hope now you realize why commercial walnut scrubs are so popular.

The best way to use Amla for glowing skin is drinking Amla juice every morning empty stomach.
Coming back to the scrub, once you have mixed all the three ingredients very well pour the mixture into a jar, now finally add few drops of Vanilla essential oil and stir to blend the oil in your walnut scrub.

The Importance of Haldi (Turmeric in Indian Culture)
Among the various preparations that are done to make a wedding ceremony the perfect one, is one tradition that involves applying a turmeric paste on the bride’s body. Turmeric is considered auspicious in Indian culture and we Indians possibly make the most use of it. In India Turmeric is used as a spice in every household, it is also given a very high regard in our ancient medicine system i.e. Ayurveda. The classic Haldi ubtan for bride is not just a face pack or a beauty regime but in true essence it is a tradition that has been followed since time immemorial.
Haldi, Halad or Haridra all these names refer to the golden spice Turmeric which comes from the Ginger family. Turmeric is used to improve blood circulation, ensure digestive health and is also a very good and effective home remedy for cough and cold. Apart from numerous health benefits of Turmeric, it is also acknowledged as a beauty aid. It is used in several beauty formulations like sun screens, fairness pack, anti acne creams, antiseptic creams etc. and thus in an Indian wedding a whole ceremony is dedicated to Turmeric, to beautify a bride and groom prior to their wedding day.
The Haldi ubtan is applied on the arms, legs and face of the bride and is gently scrubbed and is followed by a customary bath. The Uban helps in brightening the skin and removing the tan, it also gives glow and radiance to the skin.
How To Make Haldi Ubtan For Bride
Ubtan is a paste made with different ingredients like besan, haldi, masoor dal powder, sandalwood powder, fuller’s Earth etc. to improve the complexion, smoothness and radiance of the skin. Using Turmeric in the ubtan will not only bestow glow and suppleness but will also help in treating pimples, fading the scars and killing the bacteria from the surface of the skin.

The reason for adding the ingredient listed under no. 4 is to tackle the dryness that can be caused to the brides who already have dry skin. Those who do not have dry skin can delete the oil from this ubtan.
How To Make The Turmeric Paste For Bride (with sandalwood)
1. Soak the Turmeric roots for 24 hours so that they become soft and convenient to be ground or pounded. Pounding is the traditional approach applied while preparing Haldi paste for brides.

To start with, let us first know the basic formula, which remains almost the same for the store bought body scrub too and the formula goes like this:
1. An Exfoliant:
which is coarse in texture
2. A Carrier Oil:
Which is a base oil and basically provides a medium to hold and combine the body scrub. It is less concentrated in nature and is usually extracted from the fatty part of a plant.

- Walnut Oil
- Olive Oil
- Jojoba Oil
- Coconut Oil
Fragrance can be added both with fragrance oil and essential oil. To put it simple a few drops of essential oil must just do fine. Fragrance oils should be avoided as they are artificially prepared to mimic the fragrance of a natural ingredient.
Note that certain essential oils should be avoided by pregnant women.
If you have sensitive skin you must avoid certain allergy triggering essential oils, esp. Tea Tree oil. Citrus oils may lead to sun sensitivity in some.
