Are you trying to deal with Postpartum stress ? These self help tips for coping baby blues will certainly help in a way or the other. As the little human arrives, the hearts are filled with joy, everyone seems to be very happy to welcome this new member in the family and so is the new mom. But wait, very soon the joy starts getting overpowered by the baby blues. The stress starts developing and the new responsibilities starts taking a toll on the new mum’s life. It is this time when you are introduced with this totally unexpected phenomenon, “Post Partum Depression’.
So why does this happen? What changes the most blissful fairy tale into a depressive and stressful saga? The biggest reason that is known to me is the “EXPECTATION”. This game of expectation begins months before the baby arrives, the moment it becomes known to people around you that you are expecting, more than blessing and good wishes you are showered with advises.
Unfortunately for many women the post partum depression doesn’t seem to end and their life becomes gloomy, the end result of which is low self esteem, loss of interest, unhealthy eating habits and so on.
You can Deal with the problem with these Self Help Tips For Post Partum Depression
1. Accept That a Little Mess in Your House is Just Normal
You were a perfect homemaker and your house used to be spick and span but now what has happened ? Just a Shift of focus, your life is revolving around this new member, and you need to realize that this little wonder needs you the most. Try to adjust with your not to neat and tidy house.
2. Do Not Try To Be A Superwoman
Nowadays women are constantly under pressure of being a great multi-tasker. Refuse to take this pressure and feel happy about what you are and whatever you are doing for your family. Do only what is the basic requirement dont try to make everything perfect. Once you start realizing that your utmost priority is your baby and rest everything can be put on hold for a while, you will easily get over the depressive side of the Post Partum phase.
3. Welcome The Helping Hands
Be it your mother or your mother in law let them share the load. Accept happily whatever help they are willing to offer. Involve your husband in taking charge of some of the household chores. I have seen certain families where men are treated as a boss. Women on the other hand are considered as mere housekeepers. It is the responsibility of both husband and wife to run the household efficiently.
4. Become Deaf to The Annoying Aunts
They are everywhere and there is no way that you can avoid stumbling upon one. Things you are likely to hear from them ‘Oh you still look pregnant’, ‘BTW who does the cooking, must be difficult for you ‘, ‘In our times we had no diapers, your generation is lucky,, and so on. Can you stop them? NO, so it is better to become deaf to such comments and save your soul.
5. Ensure ‘Me Time’ For yourself
This is very important, me time is the time that you spend with your ownself. Try indulging in things that interest you and make you feel happy and content. It can be anything like a hobby, chatting on phone, watching tv or just getting a Salon treatment. All you need to ensure is that you don’t get disturbed while you are enjoying your own time. Disturbances will lead to more frustration and dismay.
6. Love Your Child But Don’t Stop Loving Yourself
The biggest problem of women is their tendency to giveaway everything for those whom they love. We forget that even our life is precious and many a times we are made to believe that thinking for yourself is being selfish. We need to understand that friends, family, love and children are all part of our life and not our life. Children are precious to us, they give a meaning to our life, I wont be exaggerating if I say being a parent makes your life worthwhile. But do not make them the reason of your personal fiasco. A lot of mothers forget their own life and start living for their children , all they remember is to cook, to feed, to clean, to teach and so on, gradually this lifestyle starts taking a toll on their physical and emotional wellbeing. As the children grow they become independent and that is when you feel a pinching void in your life.
7. Do Not Forget This is Just a Phase of Your Life
As I said earlier, this is just a phase, time waits for none. No matter how difficult you are finding to adjust with this phase of your life, the fact is ” it will pass”.
8. Get Help
If you can afford a helping hand, go for it. This will give you the opportunity to spend some quality time with your little one. By delegating the household chores to your domestic help, you can create memories with you children to cherish for a lifetime.
9. Get Out In The Sun
Sunshine can lift your mood and make you feel energized. Ensure to get 15-20 minute sunlight everyday.
10. Eat And Rest
Your physical well being is equally important, no matter how busy you are, eat your food on time and don’t even think of skipping meals. Take enough rest as and when possible. To ensure proper functioning of the body proper nutrition and ample amount of rest are pivotal. Ignoring/skipping these will lead to more stress.
